Jackie Isard (BA Hons) SBA Fellow CBM  Botanical and Nature Artist

Jackie graduated with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from Ravensbourne University in 1989. This was her career until a few years ago when she tried her hand at Botanical painting, now her present career. She is a self-taught artist passionate about flowering plants, nature wildflowers and pollinators. Painting the beauty of decaying plants is also one of her fortes. In her work she spends a great deal of time researching her subjects and studying their botany under a microscope to ensure she paints true botanical form. Her work is always very detailed and she strives for accuracy.

Jackie is at present working on an RHS exhibition entry based on Wet Meadow Wildflowers. Jackie is passionate about wildflowers, pollinators and nature preservation which is why she chose this theme for her RHS exhibition. Follow her RHS journey on her blog and Facebook page (link below). The most recent RHS blog post is on this link: https://jibotanicals.com/2019/11/05/blog-18-rhs-research-journey-2019/

In 2018 her painting of Origanum marjorana was featured in the book ‘The Illustrated College Herbal – Plants from the Pharmacopoea Londinensis of 1618’ organised and published by Jane Knowles, Henry Oakley and Gillian Barlow.

In 2019 Jackie was awarded full membership with the SBA becoming an SBA Fellow. In 2019 Jackie was awarded the Margaret Granger Memorial Award for her Faded Protea neriifolia ‘Snowcrest’ painting at the SBA exhibition, Mall Galleries, London.

In 2017 Jackie began teaching Botanical and Nature watercolour painting at venues local to Bristol and Gloucester. In 2018 she started to launch online courses. Her ‘Mixing Watercolour Accurately for Botanical using Primaries’ online course has been very successful. A ‘Fine Details and Finishing Techniques’ online course was added in 2020 in which Jackie teaches more advanced brush and colour rendering techniques.

In 2020, Jackie started wrote a book on colour mixing and techniques for the botanical artist which was published by Crowood Press in 2021; 'Watercolour Mixing Techniques for Botanical Artists'. Available on Amazon and bookstores throughout the world. In 2021, Jackie entered a painting of Southern Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza praetissima) to the ABBA 'Reflections' exhibition which, along with 66 other artists, has been featured on screen at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery at Kew. Inspired by COP26 the exhibition is focused on the crucial role that plants play in preserving the planet's health and biodiversity, no plants - no planet. This exhibition can be seen on their website or at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery at Kew Gardens until March 2022, https://www.britishbotanicalartists.com/reflections-1.
