Call for Entries
We are really excited to announce a call for entries for our next exhibition "Purely Botanical". This is your chance to showcase your artwork to a worldwide audience so start thinking about your next composition. As an Association of Botanical Artists our focus is on reflecting accurately the natural beauty of plants that surround us, particularly native plants.
Open for Submissions: Tuesday June 23rd - 2020
Closing Date for Submissions: Sunday September 20th - 2020
Exhibition Opens: Sunday October 4th - 2020
These are the basic criteria for the exhibition:
Only Members of ABBA can submit artwork - if you would like to submit and you are not a member then come Join Us.
The subject must be defined as "botanical art" hence the title of the exhibition - "Purely Botanical".
The artwork can be of any subject, we especially love plants that are native to your location.
The artwork can be an existing piece or a new creation.
The exhibition is not juried other than ensuring the work is "botanical art".
The artwork should be submitted as a digital image of publishable quality.
You can submit a maximum of two pieces of artwork.
We guarantee that at least one of your submitted pieces will be exhibited.
More detailed information is available on the artwork submission page.
To accompany this call for submissions we think it would be helpful to have a clear idea of the differences between botanical illustration, botanical art and flower painting. One of our Trustees, Martin Allen has agreed to help put together an illustrated definition on the ABBA website that will become our benchmark for all future exhibitions. We will publish this information on our website with detailed examples in the next few weeks so look out for the accompanying article on our front page blog.
The second Member support for all our exhibitions relates to preparing your artwork to be submitted for our online gallery. This can be as simple as a photograph, a scan or a professionally produced digital image.
A quality image makes all the difference in showcasing your work. We will put together some resources that will help you produce a quality digital image for our exhibitions. This will include links to "how to" videos, helpful websites and if using a mobile phone or tablet, some of the apps you can download to help maximise the quality of your image.
Remember we promise that every ABBA member who submits artwork to any of our exhibitions will have at least one piece of their artwork shown so start thinking about what you can submit for our
"Purely Botanical" Exhibition.
